At 25℃, its solubility is approximately 1.2 g/100 ml of water, or 1.2%. This means that natural borneol is a slightly soluble substance and requires heating or an organic solvent to aid in dissolution.
Effect of temperature on solubility
When the temperature rises to 60℃, the solubility can increase to approximately 1.2 g/100 ml, but other methods (such as ethanol, ether, etc. organic solvents) are still needed to enhance the dissolution effect.
Limitations in practical applications
Due to its poor water solubility, natural borneol is mainly used in external preparations (such as plasters, sprays) in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic fields, or the active ingredients are extracted using alcohol solvents. Its properties include strong volatility and easy solubility in organic solvents (such as ethanol, chloroform), etc.
